As a result of the tragic explosion in Beirut in 2020, many fundraising campaigns were launched in order to aid the victims of the blast and the reconstruction efforts. Among those was Li Beirut typeface which I had the opportunity to participate in.
Li Beirut typeface was organized by Lebanese designer Dr. Nadine Chahine, and it brought together representatives from the international type design community in order to create a typeface that would raise funds. 157 designers from around the world contributed to the design of the typeface, with more than 300 glyphs. The font includes decorative Arabic letters and Latin capitals as well as Arabic numerals and a few symbols, all of which together represent the solidarity of the international community with Beirut and its people.
I created three different glyphs representing the letters: waw, ain, and hah, in a decorative/monumental style.
