My participation in the exhibition "Design Dispatch" at Manarat Al Saadiyat (MAS), Abu Dhabi, curated by Mobius Design Studio, 2023/24.
Inspired by the late artist Mohieddine Ellabbad, this exhibition unveils captivating stories woven into fashion, celebrating identity and cultural expressions. It allows for an exploration of the power of the "T-shirt" as a canvas for meaningful conversations, examining how T-shirts are used to advocate and convey values, serving as a powerful tool for communication.
In my work, I celebrate the beauty and rich heritage of the Arabic script, with a particular focus on the profound Algerian proverb: "إذا صرخ الطير الحر ما بقى للديك تأذان," emphasizing the power of truth. This proverb acts as a bridge between diverse cultures, sparking curiosity and dialogue about language and culture. The choice of Nastaliq calligraphy, known for its graceful flow and poetic representation of Arabic, adds a sense of freedom and strength to the design. The merging of illustrations with calligraphy showcases the flexibility of Arabic letterforms, transforming words into vivid images and phrases into intricate visual narratives.
Overall, this artwork serves to unite people across the globe through the beauty of language and culture while inviting Arabs to take pride in their linguistic heritage.
